FACE is one of the oldest University faculties (the first hundred students on a specialty "Automation and telecontrol" and "Radio engineering" started their study in 1962). Today the experts in the field of computerization are prepared there with help of the latest achievements in science and new techniques and methods.
An entrance competition at FACE is traditionally very tough. Due to the fact that the Faculty prepares demanded specialists its graduates face no difficulty with their employment. The students are observed during study period and different companies offer them interesting and well-paid jobs in the field of mechatronics, robotics, computer science and engineering, information systems and technologies, management in technical systems, electric drive and automation.
Scientific research at the Faculty is an integral part of the studying process. There has been successfully operating a scientific research laboratory of micro-computers and system debugging and the Republican Interuniversity Research Laboratory to develop computer software. It has become a tradition to pass the experience from leading specialists to the young students who can in turn develop their talents and realize their inclination to research work.
The Department of electronic computing machines involves students in theoretical work for application of intelligent systems. At the Department of automation and telecontrol a research project is conducted in two modern trends in the field of signal analysis of digital communication systems. The Department of electric drive and automation of production plants works in three scientific areas related to computer-controlled industrial processes. The developed methods and tools have been successfully implementing by a lot of enterprises of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Izhevsk, Kirov, Republic of Komi, Arkhangelsk, Yekaterinburg, and Kirov regions.
The students can continue their study as postgraduate students (for example, on a specialty "System analysis, management and information processing (industry) in technical sciences").
The Faculty demonstrates a serious approach to scientific work: for example, the Space Research Institute has used a color terminal SVIT developed by FACE (the Department of electronic computing machines) in the Soviet-American project on studying Halley's Comet (1P/Halley).
Today FACE counts more than 800 full-time students excluding part-time and evening students. The educational process is realized by 52 teachers, including 8 Professors (6 Doctors of Engineering Sciences among them).
