On January 22 the International Grand Prix "Ivan Poddubny-2017" finished in Moscow.

The tournament has brought together the best Greco-Roman wrestlers from 11 countries. Participants were sent personal invitation letters from the Russian Wrestling Federation. The same letter was delivered to VyatSU student of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Eugene Vysotin.

Eugene has fought in the weight category of 71 kg. He lost his first fight by points to the champion of Russia, Yuri Denisov from St. Petersburg, who eventually has won the Champion’s title.

But the first failure hasn’t broke Vysotin’s spirit! Our student has proved to be a mature master in the following fights. He confidently defeated his opponents from Kazakhstan and then from Novosibirsk (e.g. Valery Gusarov, the winner of the Grand Prix "Ivan Poddubny - 2016"). In the decisive battle Eugene Vysotin has won an opponent from Georgia and took the 3rd place.

It should be mentioned that the competition in memory of the outstanding fighter, the Champion of Champions Ivan Maksimovich Poddubny has been organizing in our country for 55 years already (this year's Grand Prix in Moscow was an Anniversary). Over the years, the tournament has been hold in 13 cities of Russia and 7 former Soviet Union republics.

The last time a Kirov fighter managed to win a medal in Poddubny’s competitions almost 30 years ago. It was an athlete Alexander Litvinov (now lives in Moscow). Also Yuri Patrickeyev (born in Kirovo-Chepetsk) was a success there. However, at that time (1996) he represented the team of Krasnodar city.
