VyatSU future lawyers participating in international competition named after Philip Jessup

The other day the Russian national stage of the Philip Jessup contest, the most prestigious competition in public international law, ended at Moscow State University.

In Russia the competition has been held for the 18th time as imitation of student's trial: almost 100 universities took part in it this year. In 2019 VyatSU Law Institute, presented by students Vladimir Babushkin, Sofia Solovyova and Valery Yarem, was among the participants of the competition for the second time. VyatSU team mentors were former participants of the contest from USA: Haley Tamburello and Courtney Colonesse.

 

Having successfully completed two most difficult stages of an international competition (memorandum writing and speech making in front of international boards of judges (from Germany, England, Brazil, etc.), VyatSU team entered the top 30 at the Russian stage of Jessup competition. The experience of participating in such outstanding competitions has enriched the team with the skills of public speaking in English and the experience of competing with the strongest rivals from Lomonosov Moscow State University, Higher School of Economics, MGIMO University and other leading Russian law schools.

The key university of Kirov region was also represented on the jury of the competition by Elena Gordeeva, an associate professor from VyatSU Department of theory and history of state and law.
